This year would have been the late, Nelson Mandela’s 100th birthday, and the entire country of South Africa is celebrating the great man by organising a series of commemoration events throughout the country. If you are planning a trip to South Africa, it is certainly worthwhile researching which events are taking place, as well as visiting some of the significant sites associated with Mr. Mandela, such as Robben Island and his home in Soweto.
Born to be wild! This year marks the 115 anniversary of the renowned Harley Davidson motorbikes. To celebrate, there will be a huge party in the city of Milwaukee, which is in the Mid-West. You could even take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Harley Davidson factory, too.
Talking of North America, you can’t beat a trip to New York. There is the incredible shopping, the amazing sightseeing and, of course, an extensive array of restaurants. If you are over in the Big Apple in August, why not see if you can wrangle a seat to one of the hottest tickets in town—the magnificent US Open? Not only can you expect to see some impressive tennis from the likes of Nadal and Djokovic, but you might also spot some celebrities such as Bradley Cooper and Matthew Perry there.
Looking to combine culture, fun and a beautiful city? Why not take a break to the beautiful city of Edinburgh? There you can take in the renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where you can see comedians, theatre productions, opera performances and much more. There are thousands of different shows to choose from, so you will be very much spoilt for choice.
Bavarian outfits? Check! Giant pretzels? Check! Copious amounts of beer? Of course! Considered to be one of the biggest beer festivals in the world, Oktoberfest in Munich is attended by six million people each year, and thousands of people travel from far and wide to enjoy all the festival has to offer.
