Las Vegas – More Than Just a Gambling City

Whilst the stereotypical image of Las Vegas is one of excess and gambling, so for those who enjoy playing games at sites like Jackpot City and the like it is a potentially perfect getaway, Las Vegas has so much more to offer and is now gaining prominence for its many other attractions.

So Why Should You Consider Visiting Las Vegas?

Las Vegas is working hard to reinvent itself as a place that the whole family can visit on holiday and offers plenty of family-friendly entertainment. If you are there with children then a visit to the Tournament of Kings at the Excalibur is an absolute must. Combining a three-course dinner with firework displays, medieval-style sword fights and jousting and maidens who perform dance routines  this has become one of the resort’s most popular examples of family fun. Perhaps the only equal that it has in that respect is the Adventure Dome Amusement Park, which is the biggest indoor attraction of its kind in the world and has a 55-mile-per-hour roller-coaster, arcade and bumper car rides.

But, if neither gambling nor theme parks are your thing what should you do?

Why not take in some of the great shopping available in Las Vegas and Tivoli Village instead; if you are a bit of a shopaholic this is definitely something you won’t want to miss.

This luxury retail centre can be found 15 minutes walk from the Vegas Strip and features architecture designed to look like an old European village. Once inside, the shopping ranges from boutiques unique to this centre to some of the world’s biggest brand names, alongside a number of good eateries.

Las Vegas also features plenty of fine museums and if you are interested in trains, then the Nevada State Railroad Museum will be ideal for you, as it features trains dating back to the 1930s. Furthermore, you don’t just get to admire them from a distance – you can hop aboard a train from that era and travel the same track it would have taken when it was delivering supplies to those constructing the Hoover Dam.

On top of this you also have the Mob Museum, the National Atomic Testing Museum, the Pinball Hall of Fame, and Madame Tussauds Wax Museum that may be worthwhile visiting.

Plus, don’t forget the fantastic Grand Canyon.  Anyone visiting this area should really consider taking some time to visit these magnificent stone formations, whether from the ground or through one of the many different helicopter trips available.

Of course, while we have been focusing on activities other than casino, the chances are you will want to visit one of those while you are in Vegas as well. One good pick is the Bellagio Casino, on the Strip, which offers hundreds of great table and slot machine games, but also boasts unique sights like the Fountains of Bellagio – a spectacular nightly display of lights and water.  You also have many nightly shows to consider, often featuring world-famous artists or if you wish to dance the night away, perhaps a trip to one of the many nightclubs would be more your thing.

Where to Stay When Visiting Las Vegas?

When it comes to where you are going to stay during your trip, why not try one of the many unusual accommodation options it offers – for example the Artisan Hotel. This combines luxury with a Gothic theme, including Van Gogh, Rembrandt and Cezanne reproductions on the walls, oddly angled ceilings and red velvet furnishings.

As you can see, there is so much more to Las Vegas than most people realise.
